UK Government supports the important role kiln-dried firewood plays in heating our British homes

In Britain, we have been searching for a heating solution that is effective and doesn’t leave us exposed to unpredictable energy bills. Over the last decade, many of us have turned to firewood as an alternative, with an average of 130,000 eco stoves installed in UK homes each year, compared to just 40,000 heat pumps.
When firewood is produced the Log Club way, it becomes a heating source that is 100% British, highly sustainable, and affordable with transparent pricing.
Following its letter to the Stove Industry Association, our government has thrown its weight behind modern stoves and firewood—adding stoves as a secondary heating source for new housing developments and supporting the role firewood plays in sustainable home heating.
The UK government is continually shaping its policy on how homes should be heated using renewable, British energy—without burdening the public with high energy bills.
The government's main focus over the last decade has been the installation of heat pumps. Heat pumps are a fantastic technology that allows the UK to harness renewable energy from our impressive fleet of wind turbines and other sources to heat homes.
However, heat pumps can leave homeowners exposed to unpredictable electricity bills. On top of that, when it gets really cold, a heat pump connected to your central heating system doesn’t pack the same punch as lighting a fire in your living room.
From a national strategic perspective, overreliance on heat pumps raises some questions. Firstly, in the depths of winter—when heating demand is greatest—how is electricity for heat pumps generated when there is little wind and no solar? Does this leave us dependent on gas power stations and imported energy?
Secondly, there's the question of national security. Just this week, there have been major power cuts across Spain and Portugal. An incident like this would knock out all heat pumps—and therefore our domestic heating.
For these reasons, our government is supporting the use of firewood stoves as the perfect partner to heat pumps in home heating. When electricity prices spike or temperatures drop, we can simply light our stoves to keep our houses warm.
The UK is now catching up to its European neighbours—such as France, Germany, and the Scandinavian countries—which permit modern eco stoves and support their role in national energy strategy.
With firewood set to play an important role in heating our homes, it is essential that Britain has a reliable supply that is British, sustainable, and affordable. At the Log Club, we are building Britain’s first modular approach to producing kiln-dried firewood, enabling us to scale up production and supply the UK.
All of our timber comes from sustainable British sources and is dried using 90–95% renewable energy, such as waste from local tree surgeons. We have developed the most efficient kilns in the world, using an array of sensors that generate live data and highlight opportunities to continuously improve our design. Our highly efficient processes generate cost savings, allowing us to provide the UK’s most affordable kiln-dried firewood.
